  • lb ground beef (80/20 or 73/27)
  • ¾ cup chopped yellow onions
  • ¾ cup chopped green bell peppers
  • 1½ cups bread crumbs
  • 2 whole eggs (lightly beaten)
  • 3 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 3 cups ketchup
  • ⅓ cup brown sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a medium bowl, mix together ketchup, brown sugar, dry mustard, and Worcestershire sauce; set aside.
  3. Lightly spray a broiler pan with cooking spray.
  4. In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, onions, bell peppers, bread crumbs, beaten eggs, Worcestershire sauce, dry mustard, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently until just combined.
  5. Shape the mixture into a rectangular loaf and place it on the prepared broiler pan.
  6. Bake uncovered for about 30-45 minutes until the internal temperature reaches 150°F (65°C).
  7. Pour some of the prepared tomato sauce over the top and return to the oven until it reaches an internal temperature of 160°F (71°C) and the sauce thickens.
  8. Let rest for several minutes before slicing and serving.
