  • ½ cup Dutch process cocoa powder
  • 1½ teaspoons baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup light brown sugar

  • 1 cup sour cream
  • ½ cup plus 2 tablespoons canola oil
  • ½ cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1¾ cup semisweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F. Grease and flour a muffin pan for 18 muffins.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine the granulated sugar, brown sugar, beaten eggs, sour cream, canola oil, milk, and vanilla extract.
  4. Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until just combined. Fold in 1¼ cups of chocolate chips without overmixing.
  5. Fill each muffin cup nearly to the top and sprinkle with remaining chocolate chips.
  6. Bake for 5 minutes at 400°F, then reduce to 350°F and bake for an additional 12–15 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
  7. Allow muffins to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
